Hangin’ Out

July 22nd, 2008 at 4:41pm

Ok, so I’m writing this as I’m waiting for my car to be aligned. Apparently, it had “negative camber”, which I suppose is a direct translation to “yes, your money is going to help the future of your tires. Somehow.” I really don’t know. Just as long as I don’t have to replace my tires as often as I do. Perhaps it’s my style of driving, I don’t know.

Anyway. Word has probably gotten around now that I’ve quit my job at CB Richard Ellis, and am going to go back into the wonderful business of web programming. Rather than start my own firm, I’m going to work for a firm that is more established. It’ll be advantageous, as I no longer will have to worry about finding clients, but instead focus on the daily challenge of making good webpages.

I think this might be my first blog mention of LeAnna, my girlfriend, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I’m not going to go into more. She’s wonderful. I can’t believe eHarmony actually worked. I was worried for a while.

In any case, I don’t really have much more to write about right now, though I know I should. I’ve been taking the week off to get errands done, and blow off money I don’t have. So it’s been fun.

Changeover? We’ll see…

June 30th, 2008 at 11:41am

I think I’m going to retire “Adam the Dog” soon. I’ve had a lot of fun with the page, but I’m tired of the dog thing. As fun as it is and all… Anyway, I have a few domains I’m thinking about switching to; we’ll see what I decide on. But expect a change really soon–and I’ll figure out how to archive all my entries here (there are about 930). Or not. In retrospect, I’m pretty lame ;)

It’s Been a Long Day. Already.

June 25th, 2008 at 7:10am

My Rotary Club is “demoting” our president today. While this alarms most people, it’s actually common practice… The president’s term is one year, and ends this week. So, rather than just kick him out and put the new one in, we “demote” him by roasting him in a big fun party.

I’m the Master of Ceremonies.

I was also tasked with doing the slides for the event–see, we SING during our demotion (it’s a prison theme, complete with homo-erotic references everywhere), and because everyone has better things to do, no one memorizes the lyrics to any of the songs. As a result, we need two screens–one for the performers, and one for the audience.

No big deal. Except that MY eyesight, as terrible as it is, is significantly better than some of the other “old folks” in the group. That’s OK, though I’m disturbed that some people can’t read 50pt font on a 24″ screen from six feet away.

So after our dress rehearsal last night, I went home and made all the fonts bigger. Except that made them too big to have more than a couple lines per slide. So I ended up doing one line per slide, plus the previous and next line so no one gets lost in the song. And a pretty nifty verse-tracking graphic. Nevertheless, I woke up at 5am yesterday, and haven’t slept. It’s 7am. Today.

I need a nap.

George Carlin: Comedy Genius

June 23rd, 2008 at 10:03am

George Carlin passed away Sunday from a heart attack in Santa Monica. It’s pretty sad–he was an amazing comedian, and definitely a trendsetter. Oddly enough, XM Radio was playing a long interview with him on Friday and Saturday–so I got to hear his life story there. I hope we continue to hear his work on XM, youtube, etc, forever.

Ok, so let’s just shoot people

June 11th, 2008 at 7:15am

So Taser lost a $6 million suit against a woman whose husband died in a Taser shooting. The guy had an enlarged heart from many years of drug use. The argument was that Taser did not inform anyone that being shot COULD be lethal in various circumstances.

So here’s MY take… See, the Taser shoots two wires into a person and zaps them. The goal is really to stun (not kill) them. In the real world, however, people are different, and that zap can have differing effects. Most people (in fact the overwhelming majority) will not die from the shock, and therefore, the Taser is considered a non-lethal weapon. If you punch someone in the head, it’s not SUPPOSED to be lethal, but it could be. That being said, law enforcement agencies use the Taser as an alternative to SHOOTING someone, something that is intended to be lethal.

That being said, Tasering is still better than shooting. Suing Taser is stupid–it’s a bit like suing a gun company because their weapons kill people, or a knife company because someone got stabbed. Sue the police department? I don’t know–that’s hard to nail down. I don’t know if they used excess force by using the Taser in the first place (I doubt it, given that the guy was on amphetamines in the first place).

Costco ROCKS

June 9th, 2008 at 6:52am

I love Costco. I got a membership a bit ago, and whenever I go, I can’t stop but love all the deals. Sure, there’s a lot of stuff I don’t need–and I don’t buy that stuff–but it’s hard to resist DOUBLE ink capacity cartridges for my printer for the same price as NORMAL capacity ones at Office Depot.

Then there’s the food–delicious stuff. I don’t know how they do it–but everything there is rather tasty.

Oh, and the big thing? I save 5% on gas–from any gas station–so that’s almost $0.25 per gallon. Sweet!!

Leaving Home Early

June 9th, 2008 at 6:43am

I’ve been told to start coming into the office early (between 6:00a and 6:30a), so I’ve been leaving between 5:30a and 6:00a. The traffic is pretty magnificent; I got here in about 20 minutes, give or take. Not too shabby.

Now that I’m here, it took me about 5 minutes to do everything that required my being in the office; that included cleaning out my M&Ms jar, refilling it (thank you Costco), and signing a couple forms.

Anyway, with all this said and done, I’m going to continue trying to wake up early to make this work. So if you want late plans…it just won’t work. :(
